How to Improve Your Workspace at Home During Quarantine

2020 has truly been one of the craziest years for a lot of people and we have all been impacted in one way or another. One of the biggest changes for most people has been to figure out how to adapt being able to work from home (aka WFH) during quarantine. If you have a family like I do, I’m sure you know there are a ton of distractions to deal with and your work essentially has doubled to handle both your day and night jobs!

It took me a few weeks to get into a good groove for working from home and want to share some product ideas that worked for me to help improve my productivity. Hoping it might work for you as well!

1. Your desk/workspace

There are many styles of desks out there and it’s important to select one that is aesthetically pleasing but also more importantly, one that is functional for you to get your work done effectively. I found this desk from HomeGoods and what I like about it is the solid wood construction (looks awesome too!) and has plenty of space to handle all my gadgets and accessories.

2. The essentials

I know most folks may already know this but it’s super critical to get the essentials right such as a secondary monitor, a keyboard with a numeric keypad, a mouse (I use a trackball) and a power strip to connect all your gadgets. This is a good starting point to ensure you can accomplish the minimum each day.

3. Lighting

If you have poor lighting in your office or bedroom, then I’m certain your video calls won’t be that exciting for your coworkers or clients. I have a floor lamp but that didn’t cut it for me and so I invested into a clip-on ring light that has done wonders for me during video calls and even improved my selfies! I recently did a review on one that might work for you!

4. Tech accessories

I find it helpful to have a wireless charging station, pad or portable power bank to ensure you can quickly juice up your devices – phone and/or AirPods. Also, you should look at having a USB port extender to give you enough ports for all your USB powered devices. An external hard drive isn’t a requirement but would be great to have on hand to back up your important files in the event of an outage. Lastly, for my poor Wi-Fi connection, I grabbed a Wi-Fi extender to help boost the signal to ensure there is no downtime during my video calls.

5. Letter board

Working from home has its disadvantages since you don’t have much of a human connection and one easy way to help keep me motivated is to put an inspirational quote daily using a letter board. Might be a great morale booster to help get you through the days and weeks.

6. Stay hydrated

To prevent dehydration and keep me active during quarantine, I picked up a smart water bottle that comes with a great glowing feature after 1 hour of inactivity to remind you to drink water. This has helped me up my water intake daily and feel more refreshed.

7. Don’t forget the plants

Adding a touch of greenery to your workspace is a great way to enhance your space. Consider adding in a few artificial succulent plants to your desk to brighten things up.

Hope these ideas help you out as much as they did for me!

Thanks,

– Simply Sal
